As a last resort - yes - as upgrading to 16GiB RAM would be extremely risky
- I'd have to remove the laptop's keyboard to get at one of the memory
modules.

However, for quite some time (nearly two decades!), I've been running a
Computer Refurbishment Project in the community where I (and other
volunteers) take in old, unwanted computers and refurbish them and give
them away to people with mental health (or their families) and also to
people in care homes. Simply replacing all computers with 32GiB systems is
unworkable.

Strangely (spookily), the system I am typing this on is a Lenovo ThinkPad
T420 and it runs Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS just fine - even with a mere 8GiB RAM.

And Debian runs OK in 8 GiB RAM.

BW,

Ian
