24.04 LTS update: battery on laptop drains

My main laptop - a Thinkpad E525 - has had no issues. I used it on Sunday, 
shut the lid around noon
and opened it at 1930 today and it had 6% battery left off a full charge. 
That is good for this older unit.
My mom has a Thinkpad P15S and after the update to the 24.04 LTS the 
battery can lose up to 30%
in an hour. A friend of mine has a HP laptop that I put Kubuntu on and he 
think his battery has been
draining far faster than before. What are some things I can look for with 
these battery issues?
