Ubuntu 24.04 initrd

I created a 24.04 VM image.
I used the command "apt install r8125-dkms" to install the "driver" I need
for a real physical computer. I can reboot this VM and everything runs -
even though its using the virtio-net driver. But the r8125 driver is
included.
So now this VM has everything setup that I need on the REAL physical
computer.
I checked lsinitramfs /boot/initrd.img | grep r8125 and it shows its there.
So now I copy the initrd.img from the VM onto my machine that creates a
custom ISO. My custom ISO works fine (just does not have the correct
network driver).
So in addition I copy my NEW initrd.img to the ISO and place it in the
/casper directory.
I boot the custom ISO - if I select nothing different - the ISO boots and
starts running - just the correct network driver is not there.... So I
reboot - this time I select at boot 'e' to edit - I go down to the initrd
and change the name to my CUSTOM initrd with the network driver I need -
and hit F10 to continue booting.
Now It drops into
(initramfs)
Why does this not work ? How do I get a custom initrd with my r8125 network
support ?
Thanks
Jerry
