Ubuntu STR 25.10 installs but won't boot (lenovo ThinkPad T420)

Hi,

At last, some *good* news!

About the T420 I'm experimenting with Ubuntu 25.10 on....

On an old Dell Inspiron 530s Desktop running Ubuntu 24.04.3, I
* did a full apt update and upgrade, rebooted.
* selected a different USB memory stick
* followed the instructions from documentation.ubuntu.com to create a
bootable USB flash drive using Startup Disk Creator

Then, on the T420 which I failed to install Ubuntu 25.10 on successfully. I
then booted it, installed 25.10 x86_64 on and it worked!

I am *so* relieved.

I don't know what the problem was - was my Ventoy stick running the wrong
version of the Ventoy software? is Ubuntu 25.10 incompatible with Ventoy
regardless? was the previous memory stick slightly corrupted? I don't
know...
