Cannot access Xubuntu menu

Like alt and the left mouse button, the super key and the left mouse 
button doesn't do anything.

I had already tried alt and tab to switch windows and that now doesn't 
do anything either.

I also tried a different mouse in the other USB port but that didn't 
work either.

I booted into Windows and the USB ports and mouse seem to work as usual 
so something within Xubuntu has been corrupted.

I haven't tried a live boot and if that works then I will know that 
Xubuntu has been corrupted somewhere.
