git gui and gitk not showing git icon in launcher

Using Ubuntu 24.04 Gnome desktop.  I have installed git, git-gui and
gitk using apt.  When I launch git gui or gitk from the command line
they show a generic cog icon in the activities bar (if that is what it
is called).
They don't appear to install .desktop files, at least I can't find them.

Any suggestions as to why this might be happening and what to do about
it?  It was ok before I upgraded from 22.04, as far as I remember.
