Hi Paul

I'm not aware of any retailers doing this. However I'm keen to see this
happen and hope to be part of the solution in some way... (without
selling machines myself)

I have managed to get a machine without operating system from Chaos
Computers though, and everything except the onboard sound worked fine -
but of course they don't have that model on their pricelist any more, so
I can't recommend a specific configuration - yet.
