[ubuntu-za] graphic glitches on ATI

i installed the drivers for my ATI radeon x700 perfectly, glxgears gives
3000+ fps

when i drag a windows accros the screen, lets just say its firefox or the
console windows. it leaves a trail behind.

when i try play freeciv or quake 4 the application hangs. with freeciv i can
force the app to quit but with quake i have to kill gdm then re start it

is there some more configuring that needs to be done when you have a ATI
card?
