Hi all,
Since our wiki is not working, let me send my Switch Story to the list:
I started out as a Novell Engineer in my career, dabbled with
Microsoft :( because that was my clients preference and hated each
moment of it. Because of my involvement with Novell and mainly its
command line structure, I started working with Redhat Linux 5.
The dabling with Redhat started escalating in a passion where I started
using SuSe for desktop and server more and more. When Ubuntu was
released, or at least when I got to know about it in version 5.x, I was
impressed and thought of it let me give it a bash, but let this bash be
something more than just a bash, let me go whole hog! With that I meant,
loading Ubuntu on my notebook and start using it 110% as my O/S of
choice and interacting with my fellow workers with their Windoze pc's.
I thought that I would take red pill and go down the rabbit hole forever
with problems, but to my surprise, it wasn't all that bad. I had a
couple of teething problems, but with a bit of persistence, they got
sorted out and now I'm running everything I can with Ubuntu. My mates
even comment on it as being nice and flashy (because of Compiz-Fusion),
fast - I beat most desktops and newer laptops on boot times and general
use.
None the less my notebook and Ubuntu on it, is most people's envy at my
work and now they have seen it working successfully with all
applications we use at work, they want to change their workstations /
notebooks to Ubuntu! I have allready got a couple of chaps changed over
to Ubuntu and they realy like it.
Now I'm, or I like to think that I'm, a Ubuntu advocate of note and only
punt Ubuntu for Desktop, Laptop and server installations and I
absolutely dislike any other O/S.
Well, that's it in a nutshell....there is plenty more stories where that
came from!
