Please let us know what video card you are using and whether you have
the proprietary drivers installed for it. Please could you also let us
know what monitor (make & model) you are using. Also look under System >
Administration > Screens and Graphics and let us know what is shown
under the Screen and Graphics Card tabs.

Again, we need to know what hardware you have. If the computer is a PC,
the make and model of mainboard will assist.

The common cause for this is Google Earth conflicting with desktop
effects. Turn these off by System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual
Effects (Tab) > Toggle to None. See if Google Earth works then.

The Sun JRE is installed from the multiverse repository. Please ensure
that this is enabled under System > Administration > Software Sources >
Ubuntu Software (Tab). Then install sun-java6-jre with Synaptic under
System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager. You will be able to
find it with a search.
I personally haven't tried freemind for a while, so I will have to look
into this.
Kindest Regards
