Hi Ubuntu-ZA

Present at the meeting were:

 * David Mackie
 * Jonathan Carter
 * Stefano Rivera
 * Jonathan Hitchcock
 * Andy Rabagliati

(we ended doing it after the CLUG meeting as apposed to before, there
were no objections)

1. Mediawiki vs Moin

We decided to go with Mediawiki[1]. The biggest reason is that more
people are familiar with it and are more comfortable maintaining it. We
will use the skin from Ubuntu-IN[2], which will be slightly modified to
our needs (mostly support for floating side panels, css fixes, etc).
There has been no objections to Mediawiki on the mailing lists so we
will procede with this.

2. Drupal

We decided that we would not use Drupal[3] for our main website at this
stage, but we would use the wiki instead. The reason for this is that we
are not quite big enough to justify having a Drupal site, and we would
need enough dedicated people to manage it. There are already too many
empty Drupal sites in the world. Instead, we will use our wiki for the
main site. For future-proofing, I would suggest that we direct
http://ubuntu-za.org and http://www.ubuntu-za.org to
http://wiki.ubuntu-za.org, so that all our wiki links remain in a wiki
namespace, and that we won't break any links when we eventually do start
using Drupal.

3. Planet

We will use a planet-based[4] aggregator for our community feed. The
main feed will be an unfiltered feed, importing the direct feed that a
member provides. At a later stage (or maybe sooner), we will implement
an additional feed that is Ubuntu/Free-Software/Open-Source specific. I
suggest that we use MeMaker[5] for the planet avatars. We didn't decide
whether we should limit the avatars to one kind of avatar for
consistency, but I quite like the idea of everyone using more or less
the same kind of avatar.

MeMaker Installation (it will be packaged for Ubuntu 8.04):

 * sudo apt-get install bzr
 * bzr checkout http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~encompass/memaker/trunk memaker
 * cd memaker/src
 * python memaker.py

Any questions? Throw them to the list.
