There is a program called amsn for Linux if you want to take a look but 
most of the chat programs supports multiple protocols. From experiance I 
know that it is best to install thunderbird and firefox on Windows and 
import all the data into the Windows versions. You may find this usefull

Btw, your eml file does open in Linux.
