[ubuntu-za] Local bandwidth IRC

If you have SSH access to a local server, you can always port forward
doing this:
ssh -vNL6667:irc.freenode.org:6667 <your-local-ssh-server>
Then connecting to localhost port 6667 will connect you to
irc.freenode.org port 6667.
If you want to connect to more than one IRC server at the same time,
let's is irc.someotherserver.com port 6667, then you can simply use a
different local port, say, 6668, as so:
ssh -vNL6668:irc.someotherserver.com:6667 <your-local-ssh-server>
Then connecting to localhost port 6668 will connect you to
irc.someotherserver.com port 6667.
I'm sure from here it's self explanatory.
You can also use SSH to setup a socks5 proxy through the local SSH
connection by doing this:
ssh -vND8089 <your-local-ssh-server>
Then you can setup your browser (or any other socks5 supporting
client) to use localhost port 8089 as your socks5 proxy.
SSH is an extremely powerful tool. These just cover the tip of the
iceberg of amazing things you can do with SSH.
Hope this helps.
