[ubuntu-za] Interrupted Upgrade

On Friday I decided to upgrade from Intrepid to Jaunty on my laptop
(elderly Fujitsu Siemens P4 with dead battery).
At some point during the process, power was interrupted and I ended up
with a non-bootable disaster. On booting I end up at a BusyBox prompt and
have no idea where to go from there.
I then did a fresh install of Jaunty onto a new partition and created a
/home partition too.
Everything went fine and Jaunty looks great (btw, I have an old built-in
Intel graphics card and have no problems with it).
My question is this: Can I copy my old /home folder into my /home
partition and regain all my previously installed apps etc? Would a fresh
installation of each app be a better approach?
Thanks
Tim
