Correction- I am using a Hardy 8.04 live DVD. So is it possible to use
apt-cdrom add with a live DVD?
When I try and update the package list from an Ubuntu 8.04 DVD alone
without using the online repositories I get the following messages:
(This is even after I have used synaptic to made the CD-ROM
recognizeable by APT.)
Failed to fetch cdrom:[Ubuntu 8.04 _Hardy Heron_ - Release i386
(20080423)]/dists/hardy/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Please use
apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot
be used to add new CD-ROMs

be used to add new CD-ROMs
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones
used instead.
When I try and use sudo apt-cdrom add from the command line I still get
an error:
phillip at phillip-desktop:~$ sudo apt-cdrom add
Using CD-ROM mount point /cdrom/

My fstab file is as follows:
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
# /dev/sda5
UUID=9f8cfeba-ce71-44b7-9243-0c1d7901f626 / ext3
relatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1
# /dev/sda6
UUID=54b02795-4ebf-479e-ba3a-8ff4779ef544 none swap
sw 0 0
# /dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8
0 0
I did check the integrity of the disk from the opening menu and there
was not a problem.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I should now proceed?
Thank you.
Regards
Phillip
