It works fine with 9.04.  Sometimes its a bit flaky, but it works.
Apparently the betavine driver available here:

https://forge.betavine.net/projects/vodafonemobilec/

works just fine, although I never had any luck with it.  It should work with
8.04 too.  I tried endlessly with 8.10 with the betavine drivers and I never
got things working.

If you ask me try 9.04.
