The documents in question were actually quite confidential, but I
re-created the problem using my work XP box quite easily. I have sent
Chris four attachments which show the problem quite clearly. I can't
send attachments to this forum, but can easily send the files to
anyone else who is interested.
The first file was created with MS Word and had two lines - one in
Arial and the other in Times New Roman.
The second was exactly the same, but I used Open Office (3.0) and
saved it as a .doc file.
The third was exacly the same but saves as an ODF document.
And the fourth - just an afterthought - was created under MS Word,
but only had Time New Roman.
I emailed the documents to my Ubuntu machine. I had to save the
documents, otherwise they are read only. (Not quite sure why - but
that is a different issue).
In all cases the problem occurred: under Ubuntu, using OO 2.4, the
Arial text is fine. The Times New Roman text appears as Times New
Roman but, when I select it and try to change it, "Arial" does not
appear as an option in the pull down font window.
To me, the even stranger strange thing was that this occurred even
when the original document was created under Open Office on the
Windows XP machine.
BTW, if it is relevant, I am using Ubuntu 8.04.
Any ideas?
