[ubuntu-za] Bad upgrade

Hi all,

I hope someone here can help me.
I was running a fully patched up Intrepid with no problems for a while.
Recently, the update manager showed me that the new 9.04 was available for
upgrade.

So i tried downloading the upgrade (v9.04) and all was going pretty well
until my system just shut down! It was like halfway through the stage before
"restart" on the download. I think it may have been the "installing
packages" phase. When I rebooted, it first gave me an error message saying
something about nvidia graphics blah blah and having to open in a low
graphics mode. I then chose the option of fixing the problem and rebooting
in a normal mode, which worked fine.
Got to the point of entering username and password on reboot, and then i
just get the blank orange screen. My cursor can move on the screen, but
nothing much else :(

How do I rescue my system?
Thanks!
