[ubuntu-za] Niggling Post 9.10 upgrade issues

Hi All,

I'm really rather desperately still looking for a solution to this
problem, particularly the bit where I can't read the menus in
OpenOffice, which means that I cannot finish some very urgent work.

If this is a video driver issue (this may also explain the extreme drop
in performance), does anyone have any suggestions? However, it seems
really strange that all other display content works (even if slowly
sometimes) except OpenOffice menus and some notification boxes. Could
this problem involve Java? I currently have Java Runtime Environment 6
loaded.

I gave up on Windows because it was beginning to cost me more time
fixing it than just actually being able to get work done. I was
overjoyed to discover Ubuntu - but now I'm finding myself back in the
same situation with Ubuntu that I had with Windows. Please help.

Robin

This sounds like an uncommon problem. Since Thursday I have installed
Karmic on 3 devices now: an HP Pavilion laptop, an Acer Aspire One,
and an oldish desktop, and on each one there is major speed increases.
So this is really rare that it would use more resources.
