A lot of things here, so lets back up...  First, lets get to a base 
line.  boot into recovery mode (command line) and run "sudo 
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" and select the "nv" driver for your 
graphics.  Type exit, and let it continue to boot.  Log in.  It may 
still be a poor quality screen, but it me allow better.

No go through and remove what you added.  This means all "envy" and the 
drivers you downloaded.

Now run the System-->Administration-->Hardware Drivers.  You are running 
a very old card, so you need the legacy drivers. I believe that is 
version 96.  Try this and get back to us.
