Hello Thinus,
AFAIK, there are not "high-end" products like Garmin or TomTom.
But there is a long list of OpenStreetMap based applications.
* Navit: Feature rich. Last time I checked searching did not work well
in South Africa.
* Gosmore: My own project with a focus on (routing) performance. You
can get it from Universe, but SVN is always better.
* The latest version of Marble can fetch routes from my OSM routing
server that is updated daily. Using Gosmore as an offline routing
backend is also in testing.
OSM lacks house number data in South Africa. I started adding a little
bit in Garsfontein, Pretoria.
The extracts of South Africa is updated daily on this site:

Nic
