I posted this on GLUG a while ago, but I realised that many on this
mailing list would be just as interested. I fact it's more relavant
here....

It took me 2 days, but I got Ubuntu running on the Ebox-3310. None of
the instructions I found worked. In the end DMP supplied me with a
simple solution. Thought you might be interested.

In short:
a. Plug target harddrive (or SD card) into a standard PC/laptop. I used
a SATA/IDE to USB converter (R220 at Matrix Warehouse)

b. Install Ubuntu 9.04/8.10/8.04 on to target harddrive.

c. Boot into new harddrive

d. Install new kernel (2.6.30-vortex86mx supplied by DMP) on target
harddrive

e. Install harddrive on Ebox 3300/3310 and reboot

It's a weird way to get it intalled but it works. If you're interested I
could send you a detailed PDF with links to the kernel off list. They
don't seem to have it on their site, but the mail it on request.

I tested this with the 9.04 versions of Ubuntu, Xubuntu and Server
edition. DMP clains it will work with 9.10 but I only tried 9.10 server
edition which failed.

Hope this helps.

Regards
Charl
