Hi Brenton,

Possibly, you need to install some codecs

medibuntu repos - w32codecs : http://medibuntu.org/

look at this site to add medibuntu repo : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

search Synaptic for "codec" also "mp3"

check the dependencies of the package, to see what it installs, and decide if it is for you

some that you might want to install ( to see if your player will work with it )

ffmpeg
gstreamer ( lots of packages eg. gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 )
w32codecs from medibuntu

some other things that you might want to look at are :

winff - graphical video and audio batch converter using ffmpeg, to convert from mp3 to ogg or what ever

also Transcode - Utility to encode raw video/audio streams

William

Subject: [ubuntu-za] Lightweight Music Player

Hey all, I recently switched to using LXDE instead of GNOME because I
wanted something a little more lightweight because I don't have a very
high-end PC.

So far everything seems to be running fast and I got it to work like I
want to with some minor hacking. The only problem I have no is with a
proper music player. The default one that comes with LXDE has trouble
reading mp3's it seems and Rhythm box is kind of a resources hog. So I
decided to look for a lighter alternative. A couple of google searches
later and I'm still none the wiser.

So can you guys please point me in the direction of a player that has
similar features to Rhythm box, but without being a resource hog?

Thanks :)
