I don't think it is necessary to start another Ubuntu Loco [1] which is who
canonical send the CD's to, I think in south africa current state it would
just spreed the community thinner then it currently is.

When I wanted a SUSE DVD I would phone Novel and could collect one the same

We can't exactly phone the MD, but here in Stellenbosch/Cape Town it is
rather easy if you know where t look [2] I can honestly say I get phone
calls all the time asking if they can come get cd's or if I would mind
dropping one or 2 off after work? So much so that I started keeping my boot
filled with them(Many people can attest to this)

The reason I have had the CD's shipped to cape town and not JHB is because I
live in CPT and most of the other active ubuntu-za members (that I see)
happen to be around this area so it makes distributing them easier and more
often then not some one is flying to JHB and takes a large pack with them to
share with the other guys.

Maybe this is the wrong option? Maybe we should rather alternate between JHB
and CPT? but who would actually take responsibility for making sure they get
shared out?

But honestly I am less worried about CPT/JHB/Pretoria as they are big cities
and have pretty decent sized communities backing them and even if they can't
get an "officially branded cd" they could get and ISO or copied cd from some
one around them, the bigger issue is the smaller towns. Ship it was honestly
their only resource for getting Ubuntu CD's because most of them were and
still are on GPRS or 3g connections and downloading ISO with 3g sounds
expensive and GPRS isn't even a possibility.

Would love to know what people think? because clearly these questions are
being asked [3] and I don't have a decent solution that doesn't involve some
one taking the time to do them all or paying for all the shipping.

Is there something like that for Ubuntu community in Pretoria area.

Yes if you start one up.

If dreaming is all you are aiming for then yes. Doing or trying to do is
often far better ;)

And you seem to have started this already.
