Hi Bill. Connecting through a cell phone with ubuntu gui is very simple.
You connect the phone via usb data cable. Then click on the network
manager icon next to your volume icon in the top panel. then vpn
connections and configure vpn. A window opens with the types of
connections. Click on mobile broadband and then click add.
Choose south africa then click forward and you choose your service
provider. Then forward , forward forward and it should connect
automatically. Later you can go back to vpn connections and edit it and
tick connect automatically and all is smooth sailing from there. Hope
