[ubuntu-za] Changing UUID in 10.04?

Hi Folks,

I recently did a complete system backup using mondo. All went well,
backing up to an external hard drive. However, on trying to restore to a
new hard drive, the system says the UUID is wrong & doesn't recognize
it.
How do I change the UUID to the one on the external HDD or change the
UUID to a device name?
I read on a mint forum how to do this in 8.04, but the
boot/grub/menu.lst has, along with other files, changed in 10.04.
Not wanting to break anything, I'm appealing for help from people more
linux experienced than me.
There is a very good Grub2 HOWTO guide which I've Googled, but I have no
idea of the correct terminology to use in the /etc/grub.d/40_custom
file.
Any help would be very welcome.

Vince
