In fact, more accurately, it is interleaved posting, where you show a
snippet of the previous mail to give context, and then write your reply
after the snippet. This can be done multiple times (as can be seen by my
reply).

Jan, it is a standard. Convincing has nothing to do with it. You either
comply or you don't.

It is understood that some mobile devices do not support this accepted
standard, but if your device supports it you MUST comply.

(Odd accidental top posts are generally overlooked, but frowned upon when
it becomes habit.)

Hence people saying "apologies for the top post" when they do.
