I'd go for a talk at a local teachers' conference, such as the one
e-schools organises. We gave an Umonya talk last year and were well
received.

The other idea is to put together our own min-conference / workshop
and send invitations to a wide audience of IT and CAT teachers. Then
you can really show them how to work with Ubuntu and get their hands
dirty. We could pair this up with a Scratch workshop, as IT teachers
will have to learn it for 2012 anyway. And/or give them an
introduction to Python to try shove them that way to a) get more
learners attending Umonya and b) switching to Python for IT in the
next cycle.

Another idea is to ask the folks at Siyavula if they could get some
IT/CAT teachers together for an introduction talk and discussion
session so you can first find out how LO/OO might be received and how
to change your stance when introducing it to more teachers. The
teachers that attend that are typically quite opinionated, but they
understand how teachers in general feel whereas we won't.
