Thanks to all who replied to my question. In particular to William who
put me onto a fantastic program - 'gImageReader'!!
It works great and has also solved my OCR problem as well. It's MUCH
more accurate than the others I've tried and has saved me lots of time.
I now print out any protected PDF pages I need, scan them to a jpeg and
run them through gImageReader. This process works 100%! And the program
brings up both the original image and the OCR result side-by-side so you
can proof and correct right away. No need for a separate step for this.
