Nico, this reminds me of my own first year with Ubuntu. I had exactly
the same experience, until I learnt to never download non-Ubuntu
software and to backup and start from a fresh install when there are
problems. I also had to upgrade my RAM from 1 to 2 gig for 12.04. Even
this is still below par but the system is really working well for me
these days.
