This is a follow-up to the recent discussion on these apps to aid in
running things on wine.
I've installed PlayOnLinux in the past from the Software Center, but
haven't really done any serious things with it, and none with the other 2
apps.
PlayOnLinux automates installation and configuration for most major windows
apps on wine, like MS Office, and many more, including games.
You can download more configurations (.pol files), or make your own - they
are contributed by the community.
4-star rating and positive reviews in Software Center.
For the sake of discussion, has anyone had any success with it?
There's also winetricks, that has a gui with several features for
installing & troubleshooting win-apps etc. You can also use it from the
terminal, for example to get Limbo (humblebundle) sound working, I had to
install directX 9, I simply had to type:
winetricks dx9
... and it downloaded, installed, and configured it. I'm sure it can do more.
Regards
Péter
