I have installed JDK 1.7 from the install file provided on Oracles
website for java... it was rather painless... but I do agree that it
could be easier.
We did get used to everything one want and more in the repo's...
the alternative "rubish" for doing java development and java runtime is
also only as good as the programmer on the other side, it will get
better and are good enough to handle the basic programs, might even be
more secure at times.
