I prefer using mouse gestures.  Using Ubuntu Tweak I've configured my 
desktop such that moving my mouse to the corners of my screen 
automatically performs certain actions:
bottom left -> Expose all windows on current workspace (click on one to 
make active)
bottom right -> Show workspaces (right-click on one to make active, can 
also drag windows from one desktop to another in this mode)
top right -> Show desktop

Now I can open related windows on each workspace and switch between 
workspaces and windows by simply moving my mouse and clicking.
