I have the same card in my desktop, despite the little hitch of recompiling
after kernel updates, the card works fine. It is a better option than using
ndis wrappers. You will need the linux-headers package installed.
Its a lot to take in and feel I know more than I'd like too ;) just take it
in stride. Your plan to swap it for a more 'friendly' one is understood, if
you plan to auto-update your file server.
