New distributions come out because the developers have an itch that the 
current offerings do not scratch.  Mint came from "why can't Ubuntu ship 
with codecs?"  Lubuntu is "why cant Ubuntu be more light weight?" 
Ubuntu Studio is "why can't Ubuntu be artist friendly?"  You get the idea...

Lindos (later Linspire) was "How can I make money on Linux?"  While this 
is a valid point, it does not help my any. :)  Zorin OS looks a bit like 
this.
