[ubuntu-za] Nautilus and Thunar

I run both Xubuntu and Ubuntu 12.04. This happens under both:

When I first call up Nautilus, it takes forever - 10 seconds? - to
come back after it has shown the "Home" directory listing. Sometimes
the screen dims and the cursor remains a little circle thingee until
it has done whatever it is doing. After Nautilus is loaded, it is
fine.

Thunar on the other hand comes up immediately and allows me to carry
on immediately.

Thunar is great, but I do like my Nautilus scripts ...

Do I have a configuration problem of some kind?
