Well thinking about our options, we need a game that does not require low internet latency, so slow connections won't suffer, and appeal to a wider audience. Not everyone is into in-depth strategy or fragging.

If anybody remembers the game Worms, I can suggest Hedgewars: http://hedgewars.org/about.html

For fans of the old-school asteroids, but will be a fast-paced game that may be hard for some to learn: http://bitfighter.org/

Only thing is to play LAN games we need to somehow setup a VPN over the internet, does anyone have first-hand experience doing this?
