[ubuntu-za] A new laptop for Ubuntu without windows

Good to hear Casper! but it still sounds a little flakey. This is why I
think so:

The retail price for windows 7 is around R1,500.00, in fact the license
forbids anyone to resell their copy, that means if you buy a refurbished pc
or laptop, it includes a *new* licensed copy.

Now consider that MS is selling their windows 8 for much less than 7, their
site lists it at a promotional R350 but it looks like it only applies to
existing base licensed copies. I cant find a figure for a new installation
on their site, as helpful as a drunk 5 year old.

This leaves us assuming that to upgrade to windows 8, one needs to buy
windows 7 first. Or buy a pc with windows 7 preinstalled.

Their faq says the 'boxed' windows 8 retail value is R700 between oct 2012
and feb 2013. But nowhere does it state what it will cost after this
promotional period (the obvious inferrance being it will cost more).

So R250 is a start but still insultingly low. IMHO.
