You get specialized distros for that, that will probably serve you better.
Ultimate boot cd has served me well, good to keep a copy in my laptop bag.
If you do want to build your own install you can still check out their page
which include their complete list of tools that you may want to consider:

The only thing it wasn't that much use for was for checking ntfs
filesystems for errors, for that I found that the relevant windows install
cd actually did the trick.
