[ubuntu-za] Trusty Tahr not so trusty?

After installing Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty my system could not detect my 
camera or cellphone to transfer images. I followed these following 
guidelines to install additional software after which the camera is now 
connecting, but the Nokia cellphone is still not connecting.

There was no problem with this operation on my previous 12.04 installation.

According to this site there may be some bugs but I am not sure of they 
relate to my problem:
