Hi Gert
I prefer to use web-based applications, but they are generally more
applicable when you have more than one person working on the same
system. I can make the following suggestions:
For your standard Waterfall type projects:
1. Web2project
It's a great collaborative project management tool. You can have
multiple staff members, different departments/companies, your suppliers
and customers all work on the system with their one logins. Various
modules available including costing, timesheets, document management and
forums. It also allow for email notifications to all stake-holders on a
project when you make changes or updates.
For Software development project I would suggest something totally
different. The waterfall approach is not well suited:
1. iceSCRUM
Great multi-user tool for following the SCRUM process. Excellent in
every respect except that each project is in its own silo. Its not
great an managing parallel legs on the same project.
2. Agilephant
Excellent multi-user multi-project Agile tool. The user interface is
not as great as that of iceSCRUM though.

Charl
