Hi Bill,

ssh -X basically allows you to run the remote applications locally. It uses
the X server's network protocol via SSH.
It is nearly the same as running a remote desktop, but you don't have a
'sandboxed window' where everything is collected in. The windows come up as
actual windows in your current desktop environment.

I am not sure if that answered your question on ssh -X ?
