[ubuntu-za] Help with LibreOffice

Thanks for the responses!

The libreOffice version 5.1.4.2 which i am using was installed via the synaptic package manager. It used to work but stopped working suddenly. I'll try and upgrade the gtk and see what happens (after doing a backup off course!). I also see that LibreOffice is not installed in /opt. I did find a libreoffice folder in .config folder.

Hi Mohamed

I installed LibreOffice 5.1.23.2 from ftp.saix.net (unzip and sudo dpkg -i
./*.deb)

/opt/libreoffice5.1/program/soffice --version
LibreOffice 5.1.3.2 644e4637d1d8544fd9f56425bd6cec110e49301b

/opt/libreoffice5.1/program/scalc
runs without problems (ubuntu 14.04)

(I have upgraded gtk to 3.12.2 ... without problems)

Thanks for the advice /links. Unfortunately I only have 1 kernel image so
trying older version not possible. Recovery mode give the same kernel panic
message as normal boot. I'm not sure where my older kernels have gone. I
normally keep 3 or 4.
I can edit grub using 'e' but I'm not sure what to change.
Im running 15.10 from live CD and can access all my files

Hey.

This thread suggests you boot an older kernel or re-install grub:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1751574

This thread suggest booting by manually editing grub and then checking if
your boot path is correct: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=199710

Hope it helps!

This is a little drastic, but... If you boot the live CD, and sudo to
root, and run chroot on the mounted drive, you are in the filesystem and
can install other (older) kernals. This is not a trivial operation, and
you can really break stuff this way! But it is also a powerful tool
that can fix a lot.

Another option is to boot a newer version livecd and upgrade.
