[ubuntu-za] Missing Mouse Pointer

I am running Xubuntu on an ancient (2006) Lenova Thinkpad. Everything goes
well except that after bringing the system back again after suspending it
(whether manually, by closing the lid, or by allowing it to time out) the
mouse pointer disappears. The mouse is still working and I can even figure
out where it is (sometimes) by seeing where buttons are highlighted as I
move over them. I have not worked out a way of getting it back again other
than logging out and back in again.

Any ideas?
