Hi Vijay,

How are you? I understand you are an open source proponent. I want to
ask you some advice. I am taken by the idea as well, where one sells
customisation and support vs licenses.

I am interested in electronic medical record and billing systems. One
that has caught my eye is OpenEMR
http://www.open-emr.org/wiki/index.php/OpenEMR_Features

My idea is to first customise a version for homoeopathic practice for my
own practice use. In the future it could be modified for chiropractors
and other allied health professionals.

Could you direct me to someone/ company who could do the customisation
on such a project? I have a bit beyond basic computer skills, but the
intricacies and even basic management beyond “prescription following"
of Python, Java, mysql, LAMP is beyond me. I can follow the basics of
Linux and command line from my exposure to UNIX at UND in the old days.
However I need to rather invest time in my homoeopathic skills, as
that is primarily what I am, although I have had a longstanding love of
things IT.

I have liaised with Tajemo (they are listed as vendors of openemr in
southern Africa) in PE about a year or so ago. They were initially
helpful, esp. Craig Bezuidenhout, but then went cold on me. I mentioned
my ideas of jointly working with them with forming Homoeopathic version
of the general medical one. Perhaps they don’t want to aid me in terms
of competition? Not sure?

But I really would like to be able to run an effective practice
management system of my own, that is properly orientated to homoeopathic
practices, and in the South African environment.

There are practice management systems available in South Africa, but
generally expensive and not tailored to homeopathic practice.

A word about the South African homeopathic community, about 500 strong,
but perhaps only 350 to 400 in commercial practices. Most are not great
in the field of computers - I am also a vendor of an Homoeopathic remedy
selection suite of software - www.synergyhomeopathic.com
<http://www.synergyhomeopathic.com> . We have about 50 or so users in
South Africa.

Please give my ideas some consideration. I am a total novice in IT
enterprise, project management and evaluation of economic feasibility. I
realise that all of the above are important.

Cheers for now

Ben
