[ubuntu-za] Building debian packages

Hi All,

While I realise this is probably the easy way out, can anyone point me in
the direction of a simple, easy to follow guide to packaging a .deb file
for a set of scripts I have written.

I already have the package submitted in the epel repos for
Fedora/CentoOS/RHEL however I am also looking to get the package in an
equivalent Ubuntu repo.

Any advice on:

a) How to create the deb package
b) What is a good generic repo to submit the package to. Is there an
equivalent of epel for Ubuntu or does everyone host their own ppa or use
launchpad.
