Hi all,
For those who didn't make it to the show (and if you managed to miss
the very positive article in the Herald).... the Ubuntu stand was a
huge success. There will be a more detailed report at a later stage.
I'm always nervous of thanking people because I'm likely to leave
somebody out, but there are many who must be thanked.
Our thanks to Yo!Africa for sponsoring the stand and the Ubuntu banner
(which at 6 x 2 metres was the largest at the show) as well as
Powerspeed (power and lighting), Phoenix Tech, Microman, Virtual
Computers, Harvest International and Storegate who all assisted with
equipment.
Thanks must also go to all the LoCo Team members and Ubuntu community
members who contributed to the stand and made it the success it was.
We went out there to get attention and promote awareness, and I'm sure
we have surpassed our own expectations! Special mention to the guys
who went way beyond the call of duty; Joseph Bunga for providing so
much for the stand at the last minute (all the furniture and a lot of
work on the Freedom Toaster housing), Donald Hobbs and Lewana Nel for
organising so much (shirts, power, lighting, table cloths, pot plants,
equipment, etc.) and Kerry Gammon (for the printing of 500+ brochures
among other things). A huge thanks also to the guys who were there
manning the stand, getting sore feet and losing their voices (too many
to mention!)
This truly was a community effort and I believe that what we achieved
together was a perfect example of the spirit of "ubuntu" in action.
Well done all.
