Hi,

the problem is not wpa-psk, the problem is the madwifi driver. 
Well, after all, it doesn't work only with dhcp requests, if you start wpa-supplicant and succeeded auth, you can setup a static route which works (actually for me, with d-link di-524 and linksys wrt54G (dd-wrt v22)).
Their is already a bug report for it:
