Yes, I have exactly the same package installed. This is some version information from
/usr/bin/mayavi

# MayaVi Version - remember to change this!
VERSION = 1.4

__version__ = "$Revision: 1.16 $"
__date__ = "$Date: 2005/02/01 16:16:06 $"

I can try another reinstall, but I don't think that will fix it.
