I can confirm Zdeněk's report, adding the missing bits to
/etc/init.d/mountdevsubfs.sh will make it work to the extent of
hotplugging post boot. Is there anyone who knows more about this stuff
who has a clue on how to fix this package. It would be a huge shame to
have this broken in the next release too.

I'm a programmer by trade, but this USB stuff is not my forte. Like I've
stated I'd be happy to test any modifications to the package.
